We were thrilled to play host to Nick Hardwick of the Los Angeles Chargers. Nick’s new program is designed to show Chargers fans from San Diego as well as Los Angeles places to visit when they come to town for game weekends. (Remember, we’re closed Sunday, but fans will be at the game anyway! Visit us Saturday for all your tailgate needs!).
Here’s an absolutely fantastic video by Sheena Rao of Bon Appetit Magazine entitled “Plan Your Ultimate LA Restaurant Weekend.” It includes a visit to Langer’s Delicatessen, and it’s a total must-watch! Thank you, Sheena and Bon Appetit, for including us!
Norm Langer appeared this morning on KTLA 5 Morning News, discussing the now-legendary gentleman’s bet between LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton over the Stanley Cup Finals. He brought in food for the entire crew (including hosts Frank Buckley and Jessica Holmes) and we gave away 10 $100 Langer’s Gift Certificates by texting “Langers” to 515151(or enter at ktla.com/contests). Our sincere thanks to everyone at KTLA for hosting Norm so graciously.
Zach and Andrew from the video blog Travel Bites You have published their third and final installment of their visit to Langer’s Deli, entitled “Norm.” It’s an interview with owner Norm Langer about pastrami, corned beef and more.
Thank you, Zach and Andrew! Just a wonderful series of videos, and we are grateful.
Zach and Andrew from the video blog Travel Bites You has their second of three videos now available, entitled “What to order at a Jewish Deli” with a deep dive into the Langer’s menu. It’s a great clip! Check it out! Thank you, Zach and Andrew!
A recent Google Search reminded us of this fantastic video produced by Rebecca Steinberger for JewishJournal.com – a few minutes worth revisiting, it’s that good! We hope you enjoy this classic from October 2009 as much as we do.
Longtime Friend of Langer’s Ed Fuentes of BlogDowntown.com and View From A Loft covered our David Sax booksigning for “Save the Deli” on October 28, 2009, and filed this awesome report from the day of the event. The clip includes Ed’s trademark amazing still photography montaged with an interview of David Sax discussing his book and Langer’s in particular. Thanks, Ed!
JewishJournal.com has published a new video documentary on Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant, entitled “World’s Best Pastrami Sandwich.” The video coincides with the latest issue’s focus on delis as well as coverage of David Sax’s new book, “Save the Deli.” Produced by Rebecca Steinberger, this is a fantastic video that captures the essence of the Langer’s experience. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do – thank you Jewish Journal and Rebecca!
David Sax of SavetheDeli.com has an interesting piece up on the merits and traditions behind hand-slicing deli meats.
At Langer’s Delicatessen, in Los Angeles–home to the greatest pastrami sandwich in America–owner Norm Langer took a blackened piece of pastrami out of the steam box, slapped it on the wooden counter, and began methodically slicing, flipping the meat over and around, excising tough connective tissue. “When you cut it on a machine, you won’t cut out this,” Norm said, removing a slimy yellow membrane with a twist of the knife. “This thing is like chewing a racquetball. It has the consistency of a diaphragm. If you cut your meat on a machine, that is going to be in your sandwich.”
Langer’s is hosting an exclusive booksigning event with David Sax on October 28th – click here to sign up now for this limited availability event! The event includes lunch, a signed copy of David’s book (plus a chance to meet David), and a $10 Langer’s Gift Certificate for use on a subsequent visit to the restaurant.
Enjoy this short clip documenting the unveiling and dedication of the Langer’s Square signs at the 7th and Alvarado intersection in Los Angeles, in honor of our founder, Al Langer. The event took place January 24, 2008.
