Langer’s Deli 65th Anniversary June 15-16, 2012: Free #19 Sandwich to All our Patrons
MAY 21, 2012 — LOS ANGELES — Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant, one of America’s most famous food establishments and widely acknowledged purveyor of “the world’s best pastrami,” is set to celebrate its 65th anniversary in a big way — by offering its patrons a free #19 Hot Pastrami Sandwich at any time over its two-day event, held June 15-16, 2012.
“It’s our way of saying ‘thank you most kindly’ to our friends, fans, and patrons who have been there for us over our 65-year history,” says owner Norm Langer.
“The #19 is our most popular sandwich, and what better way to celebrate our anniversary than by giving back to those who have helped us get to this point — our valued customers.”
The Langer’s 65th Anniversary Celebration is brought to you by Langer’s Deli, the City of Los Angeles, and Council District 1, represented by Council Member Ed Reyes.
Langer’s Deli first opened its doors as a 12-stool luncheonette at 704 South Alvarado on June 17, 1947. Norm’s parents, Al and Jean Langer, created the #19 sandwich as part of their signature menu featuring numbered entrees. The #19 features hand-cut hot pastrami, cole slaw, Russian dressing, and Swiss cheese, all on warm, double-baked rye bread with a crunchy crust.
Langer’s will be open with extended hours over the two-day celebration, from 8AM to 9PM Pacific time on Friday, June 15, and from 630AM to 9PM on Saturday.
Fans, friends and customers who wish to join the Langer family during the celebration will be most welcome. Each customer is eligible to receive one free #19 Sandwich; the only requirements are that the customer be seated and served by a Langer’s server inside Langer’s Deli on standard Langer’s seating (a booth, a counter stool, or a Langer’s chair) during the event hours; free #19 Sandwiches are not available for to-go orders. One sandwich per customer per day, please!
Fans of the leading Los Angeles sports-talk radio station will be delighted to learn that 710 ESPN / ESPNLA.com will be broadcasting LIVE from Langer’s Deli during our event. On Friday, June 15, 2012, from 10AM to 2PM, the Max & Marcellus Show will originate from Langer’s Deli. On Saturday, June 16, 2012, Weekend Warrior with Dr. Robert Klapper and Coach Dave Miller will originate from Langer’s Deli from 7AM-9AM, immediately followed by LA Sports Weekend with Mark Willard, from 9AM-12PM.
In addition, on Saturday, June 16, 2012, Langer’s Deli encourages its patrons to use the Metro Red/Purple Line and Metro Bus Service to visit the 65th Anniversary Celebration by showing a valid Metro ticket to the Langer’s cashier. In doing so, each qualifying customer will receive an entry form to drop into our prize giveaway ticket drum. Each hour, Langer’s Deli will award one random selection from this ticket drum a Langer’s Deli $100 gift certificate. Ticket drawings from the drum will commence at 9AM Saturday, June 16, 2012 and will continue until the final drawing, at 8PM that same evening. Winners need not be present; entrants will be asked to provide their contact information on the entry form and winners will be notified using this information.
This promotion is being held in conjunction with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, parent to Metro Rail and Bus Service. It was the Metro Red Line in 1993 which arrived at Westlake / MacArthur Park, helping Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant survive and thrive to this very day. “It’s going to be a great celebration, and we invite everyone to come and join us in the festivities,” says Norm Langer. “If you’re a fan of Langer’s hot pastrami, then we hope you’ll join us on June 15 or June 16, and enjoy a free #19 Sandwich on us.”
