Home to the “world’s best pastrami” as acknowledged by fans, food connoisseurs, and critics alike, Langer’s welcomes National Pastrami Day each year with enthusiasm and pride. “We have a lot of fun with it every year,” says owner Norm Langer, “And it turns out that our customers love it too.”

Langer’s Wins Chowzter’s 2013 “North America’s Tastiest Fast Feast” Award

Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant is the proud recipient of Chowzter’s 2013 “North America’s Tastiest Fast Feast” award.

Nominated by Fiona Chandra of Gourmet Pigs (and Chowtzer’s west coast correspondent), Langer’s #19 was singled out for its unique combination of flavors:

The Pastrami, Cole slaw, swiss cheese and russian dressing sandwich at Langers is a revelation. Better than any of the legends in NYC. Soft bread with crunchy crust, thicker sliced, juicier pastrami cuts and multiple temperatures of cold, warm and hot mark this as a Global sandwich superstar worth traveling for.

We are grateful to the fine food enthusiasts of Chowzter and Fiona Chandra for her nomination and promotion of our family restaurant and signature sandwich, the Original #19. Thank you all so much – we are honored.

Discover Los Angeles: Where to Eat with Friends and Family in Los Angeles

Joshua Lurie of Discover Los Angeles has published a great round-up of attention-worthy eating establishments in our fine city – as a way of helping you select where to take your out-of-town family and friends during their visits this holiday season. And Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant makes the cut:

Aggravate visiting New York know-it-alls by proving the best U.S. pastrami resides in LA. Al Langer first started building his family’s pastrami legend in 1936, when he relocated from the East Coast to LA. Son Norm and daughter Trisha run the show at the MacArthur Park institution, which is best known for hand-sliced pastrami, which they still sugar-cure and season like corned beef before applying smoke and a delectable spice rub. Langer’s bestseller is #19 on the menu, a pastrami sandwich with Swiss, cole slaw, Russian dressing and warm re-baked rye. Another popular choice is the #44 with tangy sauerkraut and nippy cheese. Corned beef, potato pancakes and frothy egg creams further bolster the menu.

Menuism.com: Top Ten Sandwiches in LA

Here’s a great round-up of author “Bun Boy”‘s favorite sandwiches that can be found in our home city of Los Angeles (and surrounding communities, of course), and the Langer’s original #19 hot pastrami sandwich makes the cut:

Langer’s famous Pastrami sandwiches have been keeping Angelenos fat and happy since 1947. With consistent lines out the door, the wait is worth the reward of what I believe to be the best pastrami sandwich I’ve ever had. Forget Johnnie’s, the meat here is thicker with less fat and goes perfectly with the cole slaw and Swiss cheese. I’ve tried other sandwiches here but no need to go beyond the perfection that is #19.
