Langer’s Diorama by Jocelyn Gee

Now here’s something that we’re really proud of – a diorama of Langer’s created by the young and talented Miss Jocelyn Gee!

Jocelyn was given an assignment at her nearby elementary school to create a diorama of her favorite place. She chose Langer’s. Note the details like the menu boards, the food on plates at our counter, the counter seats, the attentive server, and even the “7th and Alvarado” Los Angeles City street sign.

It’s absolutely perfect and we are proudly displaying it on our refrigerated cooler – so make sure you check it out and take a photo of it next visit!

And to our friend Jocelyn – thank you very much. You are forever part of our Langer’s family.

Saveur: Deli Capital of the World

Writing at Saveur.com, author and Friend of Langer’s David Sax had a story about Los Angeles being, well, the deli capital of the world – building on the theme he established in his 2009 hit book, “Save the Deli”:

Los Angeles and its adjacent municipalities contain more continuously family-owned Jewish delis than any other city in the country. In the hands of third- and fourth-generation proprietors, family recipes for matzo ball soup, knishes, and latkes have evolved into high art. Arguably the best pastrami sandwich in America is served at Langer’s Deli (704 South Alvarado Street; 213/483-8050; www.langers deli.com), a 62-year-old institution in downtown Los Angeles. The expertly trimmed, long-steamed, hand-sliced meat is served warm on double-baked rye bread.

BlogDowntown.com: Counter Culture: Langer’s Deli

Longtime Friend of Langer’s Ed Fuentes of BlogDowntown.com and View From A Loft covered our David Sax booksigning for “Save the Deli” on October 28, 2009, and filed this awesome report from the day of the event. The clip includes Ed’s trademark amazing still photography montaged with an interview of David Sax discussing his book and Langer’s in particular. Thanks, Ed!

Friend of Langer’s: Sonia Romero

Sonia Romero is an accomplished local artist who created an absolutely beautiful piece of art featuring Norm Langer and his late father Al in a classic Langer’s booth as part of the artwork featured at the Westlake Metro subway station.

She now has received a commission from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to design and oversee the installation of a series of new murals surrounding four East Los Angeles Pool sites. We want to send Sonia a hearty congratulations for this great accomplishment! Truly, well deserved. Sonia will be designing the color and graphic schemes for all four sites, leading a group of youth from Los Angeles Conservation Corps in the fabrication of the murals. The murals are slated to be completed by December 1, 2008.

Congratulations, Sonia!
