Los Angeles rallies behind Central Texas communities in one of the deadliest disasters in state history

LOS ANGELES, CA — In a powerful show of generosity and compassion, Angelenos stepped up on Saturday, July 12, for “Help Texas Day” at the iconic Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant, raising over $4,000 in cash and checks to support families devastated by the catastrophic floods in Central Texas. Dozens of others donated by using a QR code and those totals are yet unavailable.

The flooding, which struck over the July 4th weekend, has become one of the deadliest weather disasters in Texas in recent memory, with more than 130 confirmed fatalities, dozens still missing, and widespread destruction across communities. As emergency crews continue search-and-rescue operations and more rain looms, the need for support remains urgent.

Spearheaded by longtime restaurateur Norm Langer, the fundraiser brought together hundreds of community members to donate — whether by walking in, driving up, or simply scanning a QR code to donate. Every dollar raised is being directed to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, a trusted nonprofit delivering critical relief to affected families.

“As a parent and grandparent, I was heartbroken watching the news unfold,” said Langer. “This was about doing something — anything — to show the people of Texas that they’re not alone. We’re standing with them.”

From 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, customers and passersbys alike stopped to donate, with LAPD Cadets assisting in curbside collection and volunteers stationed throughout the restaurant. In appreciation, Langer’s offered each donor a complimentary-beverage.

Langer personally greeted donors and shared his message of unity and hope. “Langer’s has always been more than a deli. We’ve always come together during tough times — after 9/11, during the pandemic — and now, once again, we’ve shown that Los Angeles cares deeply about its neighbors, even those thousands of miles away.”
