Modern Day Bullfight: 2nd Visit to Langer’s

LA-centric blog Modern Day Bullfight (and its author, Allison Orphan) paid a second visit to Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant recently, compelled by a sense of Los Angeles food enjoyment and the desire for a #19 and a French dip:

Talks of French Dips and the Number 19 inspired David and I to have another afternoon lunch at Langer’s. Langer’s is really that good. In researching people’s feedback on the home of the number 19, it was found that we were not alone in our worship for the food from the deli downtown. The second trip yielded a near exact order as the previous trip: me, a delicious french dip with a side of slaw and for David, the number 19. Two sodas. The only difference is we went sans fries as they ended up just sitting on the table post sandwich consumption last time.

Uncouth Gourmands: Savoring My Cultural Roots

Carina Ost of UncouthGourmands.com recently visited Langer’s Deli and had a great experience – but we’ll just let her describe it – it’s a great write-up:

The number 19 has thick pieces of pastrami, swiss cheese, coleslaw, and russian dressing. In the words of Joe Jackson, “Nineteen Forever!” It was so OMG! Anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge bread snob and this rye was fresh and perfect.

If you live in LA and have not been, this is a place that is not to be missed.

Funny Yummiez: Langer’s is My Little Slice of Heaven

Food blog Funny Yummiez posted a review of their recent visit to Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant and it’s a good one:

I love pastrami. Not the pre-packaged super deli-sliced thin type but the real juicy business. And Langer’s is some of the best pastrami that I’ve ever had. Like my friend said, “The meat melts like butter”. I never even eat coleslaw but in the #19 sandwich, I devour it all. The #19 comes with the best Russian dressing that I’ve ever tasted, delicious Swiss Cheese, crunchy yummy coleslaw, and the most wonderful Pastrami that has ever touched my lips. And the bread! Oh my! It’s the best rye bread and its so soft and fluffy but the crust is crunchy and perfect!

Yutjangsah: Langer’s of Los Angeles

Ready for a fun, well-written and nicely illustrated review of the Langer’s Experience? Then click right over to Yutjangsah for her recent appraisal of a visit to Langer’s:

The most outrageously fantastic revelatory thing about this sandwich was the rye bread. I’ve never had such excellent thick soft cushiony UPHOLSTERED rye bread. My word. The crust too was something else. It not only aspired to a baguette like rind, I’m tempted to say, it exceeded it. I know! What on earth! And the strong rye smell. My goodness. It was potent. It was more rye than your rye. It was ryer than thou.

Yep, it’s all like that – fun and very well written. Click here to read the complete review at Yutjangsah.

MyWeekendPassport.com: If there’s a deli in heaven, I’m sure the #19 is on their menu

Alex of MyWeekendPassport.com recently visited Langer’s for the first time since moving to Los Angeles and had a great write-up as a result:

It took me way too long to come here, I soon discovered after my first bite into the Number 19 Sandwich. After coming here with my friend PJ, I took one bite and exclaimed a big “WOW” out loud. Everything that’s been written about this sandwich on Yelp and other blogs is so true that I don’t even know what to add. I can only say that I had just an amazing experience as everyone else.

It’s a great article with fantastic pictures, and worth a click over to read. Thank you, Alex!

Jaunted.com recommends Langer’s

Our thanks to Jaunted.com (“The Pop Culture Travel Guide”) for their review of Langer’s and in particular, our #19 sandwich:

You’ll realize this is a special place once you set eyes on their signature item: the legendary hot pastrami sandwich, piled high on rye bread, topped with swiss cheese and coleslaw; kosher dills on the side.

In the eyes of many eaters, it’s this smoky, spicy sandwich that makes Langer’s stand above its many LA competitors.

Langer’s No. 19 – Olympic Diet?

So says The Los Angeles Times’ Chris Erskine in a recent column on the diminutive size of Team USA’s Olympic gymnasts:

One question: Where exactly are the women in women’s gymnastics? I’ve got more meat on my thumb than most of these poor kids.

Here’s a tip: The No. 19 at Langer’s Deli — the warm pastrami, with a layer of coleslaw across the roof. Juicy as a steak, this pastrami. In fact, I’m sending these scrawny Tinker Bells some Langer’s right now, in honor of all their good work this week. Please tell Bela Karolyi to keep his fat paws off.
